In the context of rapid urban development related to the new Evergreen Rapid Transit Line, the City of Coquitlam is exploring low-GHG district energy opportunities in four neighbourhoods. The City conducted a competitive process to select a district energy operator with experience to deliver best industry practices and the capacity to enter into a "franchise agreement" with the City. Corix Utilities was selected to assess the feasibility and implement, if suitable, projects in up to four neighbourhoods.
The feasibility work is now underway. Compass advised the City through the selection process and will continue to serve as the City's advisors throughout the feasibility process.
Several other district energy initiatives are also underway in the City, including: plans for a large district energy system at Fraser Mills development (Beedie Group) and the development of district energy for the Civic Centre.
